Sharing a beautiful observation from a friend,  on “How corruption destroys the economy & employment ” in a country.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Hi Friends,

I am 30 years old and have been doing job for last 10 years. I have lived 8 years in India in 5 different states – Delhi, U.P., Karnataka, Tamilnadu & Gujarat. I have seen 3 other countries too including U.S.A. I was in US for more that 2 years.

I want to share an observation with you guys. You believe me or not but after living in US for 2 years I realized that India is the most beautiful country on this earth. How ? I will explain some other time but for the time being you can read this. But I want to add further here that “India” is in a very big & bad mess today. I am saying so after analyzing mainly 3 factors – Education , Law & Order situation and Future of our generations. After careful analysis & thinking over this for months and having lived in one of the best managed countries in this world , USA, I came to a conclusion that “corruption” is the root cause for this. Let me give you a very simple example.

In California(USA), all the roads are well painted. All the zebra crossing, different lanes , lines for parking, shoulders, Yellow lanes, White lanes everything is painted. Sometimes I have seen even the roads in outskirts where only very few people live as well painted. Some people will think that it is waste of money or will believe that this is NOT an important issue for a country like India where people are dying for water and food. Well, on the other hand just imagine how positively it impacts the economy. A simple task of painting the roads requires the paint to be manufactured. So you create a chemical factory which is an easily 100 people job. This paint requires to be transported. In India, it is an additional 1000 people job for rickshaw pullers. I am assuming that we also want to avoid the use of Petrol in transportation. And painting all the roads itself is a 200 people job for a small state like Delhi itself. Then you need people for inspection of work, checking the quality and other things. SO it is easily a 1500 people job for a small state like Delhi itself.

But due to corruption in India, all the work happens on paper. Not only the money in the form of bribe goes to ministers and bureaucrats but it also makes 1500 people unemployed every year. Now this is just one example, same applies to medicines in hospital, streetlights, education, maintenance of schools, hospitals and at so many other places. Just imagine if all the work is done really and properly then how many people it will keep employed and how much production it will boost. This is a very simple formula that USA has adopted and has followed “religiously” for last 80-90 years or so. Their economy is growing only <2% a year. But it is growing consistently for last 100 years. It has worked like compound interest.

It is very important that every person does his work honestly and not like the 70-80% of teachers of Govt. School ( It is not completely their fault though!!). And it is very important that we do not allow the schemes like direct money transfer to poor. This will only make people more addicted to “free money”. As a society, you have to promote the hard work & honesty and demote laziness & any wrong doings. Always.  And first and foremost of such wrong doings is – “corruption”. Then only a society will become good in 20-30 years.

  1. Good thought. But we have to think first on preoirity basis. An urgent need is to help Farmers who are doing their best to the Nation. Lots of job oportunities in labour sector. Unfortunately we lost everthing in agricultural sector. Usage of frtilizer, pesticides, lack of proper waste management including sewage waste, water sorces are polluted, imbalanced soil nutrients etc. What we will preserve for our next generation? We have no rights to spoil the Earth. The entire right for next generation. I have to suggest that First priority for the Govts are Agriculture and Environment.

    • Sir,

A bow of respect to you. I absolutely agree that farmers and agriculture is the first priority of any nation. It is exactly what Arvind Kejriwal said in his speech in Harayana. He said a country where farmers, the food producers, are neglected can never progress.

Govt sends funds for farmers too but policies intentionally have been kept similar to Britisher raj that middleman takes away most of the things. Farmer never gets its true value.

Please join AAP and promote your friends and colleagues too.

      Jai Hind

  2. Your sentiments are noble, but if you think that Los Angeles California is not corrupt, then you did not get to know California. While the state itself is corrupt, Los Angeles is probably the worse. The mayor and city council are corrupt beyond their eyeballs. The business of the Los Angeles City Council is to loot the taxpayers and give tax dollars to their billionaire supporters, who then turn around and pay for the political campaigns of the government officials who gave them over $3 Billion.

Our courts are corrupt, but Americans prefer myths to reality.

I wish everyone in India good luck, but do not put the USA on a pedestal. We suffer from systemic corruption from the top of the federal government to the lowest political office. I think the only reason that we look better on the suffer is that our corruption did not start to take hold until the late 1970’s.

    • Oops, I saw it only after I clicked POST COMMENT. The last sentence should have been. “I think that the only reason that we look better on the SURFACE is that our corruption did not start to take hold until the late 1970’s.”

I apologize if there are more typos but I fail to see them..
